Snowed In

We are snowed in.  Have been for days.  White powder, like grace, covering the world as we know it.

Leaving it….

Quiet. Dark. Still.

And the cars. The noise. The tireless efforts of our lives….seems to come to a stop.  Abruptly.

Nestled in. Blankets chin high.  Hunkered down tight.  Like the clean, perfect white, layers outside.

And our new car refuses to climb up the hill…..just one more time.

Stopped.  At the bottom, far out of sight.  And how similar we are to our automobile.

Lives driven.  Running.  Climbing.  Now settled in.  Resting.  Still.  Refusing to move because of this snowstorm of grace.

And how our circumstances seem to know what our soul needs….even more than we do, sometimes.

Power out.  Strangers.  Acquainted again.

Flames of our lives.  Embers forced together…..begin to burn again.

And people become of utter importance.  As the God voice speaks loud to a listening world.

And there….in house cold. Wrapped in blankets and layers and layers of clothes.

Eyes clearly see what matters.  Simply God. And Each other.

 John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.โ€

And yet, I still look for answers to question.

Yet, the answer…..love.  Always love.  The first. Last.  The in between.

Loving not just in word and tongue…..but in truth and deed.

And yet, in grace. This downpour of snow……causes us to wait.  Wait.  Hear.  Listen.

And it is in these….The waiting.  Listening. Hearing.  That grace harvests much.  And love grows wings….

Come spring.

  1. Winter is not my favorite season, I love to be out working in the yard. But the snow IS beautiful and quiet and serene and sitting in front of the fire with a quilt and hot tea is a gift to one who is waiting for Spring!

  2. Beautiful words; beautiful photos. I would love to be snowed in for at least a couple of days or so this winter … so far, winter here has been more like Spring, which I also love, but in its time. ๐Ÿ™‚
