Ponderings from the Pond: Faith

And I read this morning…

Your faith must not be a passive faith.

For as day’s progress, a spirit of apathy will prevail.

And with hardships all around, we moan….But,

“We just can’t believe.”

Yet, how many untrustworthy things do we have faith in?

Man, who is proven fallible, we cling to…Yet, God who is perfect, we resist.

It just doesn’t make sense.

Believing is a choice.

It’s not about our feelings, but an act of our will.

And for those less certain days, drown in gray….

We pray…. “Lord, help my unbelief.”

Then, He carries us, like a sparrow, in the palm of His hand.  And as we choose to cling to Him…faith gathers like a flower in the field of our doubt.

And we discover….  “All things are possible to him that believes”.

Faith.….Obtains Promises.                                Faith.….. Stops lions mouths.
                            Wrought Righteousness.                                          Escapes the sword.
Subdues Kingdoms.                                               Quenches fire all around.

And….Faith rises like a fern seeking life, in an old wooden deck stretched out over our pond.

And I turn from my reading as the sun peaks through the clouds.
Mustard seed in my pocket….

…..Strolling home from our pond.

  3. Hi Jen – How true it is that we find it easier to have faith in what we see, good or bad, than in the One who created us and everything else. I want my faith to be strong – thanks for the reminder to have faith in the one for whom all things are possible.

  6. I love how your fern photo illustrates the theme so well. I never want God to say, “Oh ye of little faith.” “Faith gathers in the field of our faith.” Love that.

  7. What a powerful reminder of the importance of tying our emotions to the truth – it is an act of our will sometimes to cling to what we KNOW when all around us ‘appears’ to be spiraling out of control. This was well said and I really enjoyed reading this today!

  15. Such moving words, Jen! It reminded me that faith required effort. Sometimes I tend to be lax in my faith and yet I proclaim to be a believer. It is so embarrassing…
