Separation Has No Power

I saw him yesterday.

My brother.  My best friend.

A decade apart. Families separated. No hate, or anger, or bitterness…just a job move. Out of state.

Parting ways….Never an easy thing.

Children at the time. Naive. Starting our own families.

A bridge that grew as distance stayed.  Between wives. Husbands. Kids. Families.

Yet, distance longs for letters, or phone calls, or visits.  It always does.

Missing so much.

Birthdays. Holidays. Graduation parties.

Yet, it’s the distance that makes one value the person.  Draws you near them.  Appreciate them…even more.

I implore time to return our families.  Distance to let go of separation.  But it does not listen.

Days fly by, moments become years. Not respecting the person…or their wishes  And the goodbye that once was happy, moves on like a parting ship at sea.

Kids grow. Parents age. Friends change. Yet, knots tied with love never end.

Back together again.  Reminiscing, as if we were children locked in grown bodies.

Years steal smooth lined faces, flat tummies, careless, juvenile minds.

But they can’t rob love.

Nor destroy memories rooted in laughter, long talks, hearts woven together…longing to spring forth life.

Time passes. People change. Years wear rough edges on other people.

Yet, joy triumphant can’t be destroyed in Time Fighters…Life Livers.

Children at heart never grow up.

The brave, the strong, the invincible ones…who war against offense, resist walls of defense, continually chase innocence..

Resisting callousness, jadedness…

The clock.

Ensuring love always wins.  Truth perpetually prevails. People are valued more than our emotions, evil notions, our doubts, insecurities, fears.

Keep running forward, toward….

The prize.

The only thing that matters….

Christ.

Then as we unite. Either on this earth or again with Him. Time will have not passed.  Loss will not matter.  Tears become forced to submit to the joy in the moment.

And we can gather…as one.  Brothers, sisters, daughters, sons…of the Most High. And hardships crumble under remembrances.

And joy will be had.

Peace will be known.

We will dwell together, again, in His love…

Forever.  As One.

  1. Beautiful. I need to go write a letter to my brother now. I haven’t written him a REAL letter in so long.

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and leaving a comment. I hope you have a great end of the week!

  2. I know…letters are almost obsolete now days. Yet, at the same time, timeless. A treasure to hold onto indefinitely. Look forward to connecting more w/ you in the future! ~ Jen
