20 Short Truths from my Lost Journal

Baskets of journals hide in my closet; all scratched straight from old pens, in an attempts at intimacy with God.

Today I was looking for a spiral notebook. My daughter is starting math again. (We homeschool).

Amidst my hunt, I came across a journal from a three-plus year season. It was a time when God radically transformed my life, our family, it’s when we started foster/adopt ministry etc.

It was a season when God flipped our world upside-down, in a good way.

Faith found me, and because of grace, I found joy in the endevour of losing myself to His love.

This morning, I sat down and began reading sermon note after sermon note. At the time, truths didn’t just float across some cerebral mind, but dug deep into my conscious, uncovered sin and bore fruit still evident today, more than a decade later.

Today, I wanted to share some of these hard-hitting truths with you.

I pray they will bless you in the same way they have me. And please know, there was a whole notebook of Bible stories, Scripture, prayers and personally needed messages.

Below are just some of the short quotes I felt prompted to share. (They are not in any particular order)

  1. God is not going to ask you to do something that you can already conquer, apart from Him.
  2. Even dumb animals know their master. Yet, how quickly do we forget our good God?
  3. The greatest obstacle to faith is believing in a little, selfish, angry God.
  4. We obligate ourselves to family/blood, when Jesus didn’t hold the same obligation to family. (i.e. “Whoever shall do the will of My Father who is in the heavens, he is My brother and sister and mother.” ~ Jesus Luke 8:21, Matt. 12:50)
  5. It was the suffering that perfected the offering. (Heb. 2:10)
  6. We often wait for God to do what He is waiting for us to do.
  7. We are afraid if we give something up/let go, that we will never get it back again. Yet, God multiplies the offering.
  8. If we never hear the voice of God, everything we do is from the flesh.
  9. Righteousness is not found in sweetness, laws, good deeds, enough prayer and fasting….Righteousness is ONLY found through the blood of Jesus.
  10. If you think God wants to harm you….you are believing lies from the devil.
  11. The war-cry of a Christian is a powerful thing.
  12. God knows that there is so much to do and that you just don’t know how to do it.
  13. To us, discipline is negative….To God, it is a gift to those He loves. (Heb 12:4-11)
  14. If Christ was perfected through suffering, then why do we think we won’t be?
  15. Sin always takes us farther than we think.
  16. God is not tame (like a lion)….but He is good.
  17. We can’t tell God what to do, and that’s what bothers us.
  18. We can’t fear both God and man. (Matt 10:26-28)
  19. If Jesus preached the same gospel we preach today, He would have never been crucified.
  20. It’s in the deep where we find God. (Psalms 42:7)

    6 is a reality check…
Am I waiting for God to do something He’s waiting for me to do??

18 God brought to my attention once that I could not be a people pleaser and a God pleaser.
I had to choose and this took some deep work after tears of people pleasing!!
