Barrenness

I sit under the wide open sky…

And wonder….

How far, deep, and wide His love is.

How the earth seems to breath underneath me.

And how expensive comforters….

And  mattresses…

And beds….

And houses….

Somehow seem to suffocate the breath of God around me….in me.

And I ache for even more barrenness….

Where nothing matters….but Him.

Yet, it’s hard….I complain like a winy child…how stuff competes with a God hungry life.

Yet, when stripped so….like camping on rocky soil…

His very glory is easily absorbed into the pours of my soul…

And beauty displays itself in everything around me…. And I see Him ever so clearly.

No make-up. No jewelry. No pomp.  No material glory….

Just Him.

How beauty surrounds so much more….when naked.

And I remember…when I had nothing.  How delightful was my barrenness.

How I ached and cried for Him….

How much I was in love….

With the only one that satisfies.

I pray….Oh God…stir such yearning for you in me again….

Where life is seen without coatings or coveting….but with only spiritual eyes.  Beckoning….

Free from layers and layers of worldly disguises.

Where I fully comprehend and recognize….

All of earth is connected by the joint of Your Spirit.

Unbathed.
Lain open to the soil that’s within us.

Waking with just film between us.

Where morning stirs an unearthing…unraveling of the barrenness of our souls.

And I hear him so clearly in the morn.

Without filters of walls…technology calling…life on overdrive.

Overfull.

Just me and Him.

Here.

As the earth breathes….

Nature wakes.

He calls….

I listen.

  1. Your words and photographs are breathtaking. I want to jump in the photo and enjoy His creation. We have similar writing styles. I am so glad to have found your blog. Keep bringing Him glory!

  2. Hi Jen. This is so true. Soooooo much steals our time and layers and layers of stuff hide us from Him or Him from us. So many ‘important’ things to do. I’ve been telling my husband lately, I wish we could down scale, have less stress, less complications, live a simpler life. Like you have written, its in the barrenness that its so much easier to find God.
    Great post Jen
    God bless
    Tracy

  6. This is so incredibly beautiful. Our barrenness frees us up to truly worship God. I totally understand and feel my stuff gets in the way also. Yet, just getting rid doesn’t cut it. We have to go out where there is nothing man made and just worship Him in His creation. Beautiful post.

  8. What a lovely way to start the day 🙂
It’s so true. I find Him beneath the layers of stuff and possesions and noise. In the stillness of an unclothed soul, the first light of the morning…
    Thank you for these words.
    A beautiful reminder.

  11. “How stuff competes with a God hungry life. . .” That really struck me today. I think about all that has been pressing in on me, seemingly legitimate things to worry about, and yet they steal me away from His side. It is a competition, and it should not be. Thank you so much for this today. It was just what I needed to read!

  12. Well said Cora, “It is a competition…and it should not be”. I so agree. Fleeting gifts that fade with dead are not treasures we should seek to grasp.

For it true…Only the eternal lasts….

    Blessings,
    Jen

  13. Oh, Jen, that was simply poetic…beautiful. I often think back to when we had less and how I stayed in Him more, comforted and complete.

I have been calling to Him for talks, and intimacy of yester years.

  14. Angela – I too often think of when we were first married and had literally nothing. Some of the most precious time…together. The simplicity of it all… ~ Jen
