“Ruach?”

And the weight of weekend gone by grips me…Yet, I open Breath of Life faithfully.  Not out of passion or calling….but obedience.

I find dry bones in Ezekiel.
Representing dry carcass of Adam in Genesis…And how….

God “Breathed” life into them.

I see “breath”in the Hebrew.  The word being, “Ruach”.

It’s meaning?  Spirit.  “Ruach Elohim”….Holy Spirit.

And I read how His Spirit is in every living thing.  And how…

The breath we breath is really the breath of God.

And I remember retaining as a child.  Holy Spirit reserved only to Acts.

But my Bible says…His breath…

“Ruach” is mentioned nearly 400x in the Bible.

Imagine that.

His Spirit like the wind.  His Spirit like spoken words…

         Invisible.      Immaterial.       Power.

And I think of my lifeless religion before, “Ruach”.

How duty couldn’t rid me of guilt’s condescending game….

Good works birthed only from shame…not forming anything…

Free.             Or new.            Or God breathed within me.

And I remember all too well….the walking corpse I was.  More than dead. Spirit and soul, “very dry bones”...meaning without any hope of help.

And how only by grace His breath of life stirred.

….Awakening the dead….lifeless me.

And how…..

His Word was like oil on this rusted heart of steel.

And I read…..

Blast.       Wind.          Soul.      Courage.              Expose.           Heart.       Inspire.         Mind.           Motives.       Strength.

…..And I know….all definitions of Ruach. Definitions of God.

And I’m conviction…because I know…we are the temple of His Spirit.

And I read…

Intelligence.     Will.       Truth.        Hope.       Faith.    Knowledge.     Wisdom.       Discernment.     Infinite.      Holy.

….All expressions of “Ruach”.

And I realize….

Holy Spirit in more than a word to express one aspect of God.…But a living, breathing, active part of a triune God.

And I recollect….God is Spirit.
       The Spirit IS the Word.
                       His breath. In us.
                                  His life running through us.

And I recall it being said,
“Life without the Spirit (Ruach)….Like a kite with no wind.”

And I become so grateful…joy bubbling over….that a God could breathe life and restore….something so demolished…something so soiled.

.….And I ache to know Him more….His Spirit.  In Song. In worship.  In solitude…whenever I hear Him.  However I can know Him.  Wherever I can see Him more…..

Creative.     Unifying.     Convicting.    Leading to obedience.
Power to witness.    Gift Giver. All-pervading, fiery essence….

And we turn to our Bible Study hours later that night.  The study?

“Ruach Elohim”…..Holy Spirit.

  5. Oh Jen, your poetry is pure grace. And ruach, a word unfamiliar to me. But you have breathed meaning and depth into it — I get it. And it’s good.
