Gluing Together Truth and Love?

What if we took the Bible and cut it in half?  No?  Really!  I know…seems appalling….doesn’t it!?

But, yet.  At times. I think we do that.

All of us. On occasion.

We….

  • Take what we want
  • Interpret the Bible how we want
  • And piece God’s Word together to fit our own personal brand of salvation

Yet, did God ever intend truth like that? A broken puzzle missing pieces?

For instance.  Truth and love.

What if they intersect…instead of us choosing one or the other?

Yet….

  • Many people share truth (in Christ’s name) yet lack love.
  • And then, there are those that say they love….yet lack the boldness of speaking truth.  Somehow recreating what love is….the Bible is…who God is.

Because.  I would guess.  It’s more comfortable.  For us.

But yet….last time I checked….God is love.  And God is the Spirit of truth.

….And removing one….is in a way….well…..like cutting away a part of God.

O.k.  So.  I am just guessing here.  So bare with me.

But if I understand it right….Christ never called us to a divided life

He did not ask us to pick and choose what we believe, how we believe it.  Or in what measure we decide to interpret it.

So, what if….

Love and Truth could not be divided?

What if….

We speak truth because we love…..and true love is speaking truth.

What if….

We took the whole Bible and didn’t pick and choose.

What if….

The greatest delusion in this generation is not one specific, seemingly unpardonable sin…..but….

  • Embracing apathy in the name of acceptance
  • Remaining mute….thinking somehow that silence….is love.
  • Thinking that living comfortably, in the grey compromised state we reside is…is “safe”
  • Believing silence is a per-requisite for tolerance
  • A margin-less society is somehow embracing….unity

Hasn’t our nations already slipped dangerously.  D

                                                                                   W
                                                                                         N
                                                                                               W
                                                                                                     A
                                                                                                           R
                                                                                                                D?

Our children sadly……deceived. Future generations being slowly drawn astray…..

Because good men do nothing?

Where are the Wilkersons, Grahams, and Wilberforces of our day?

  • Unafraid to STAND UP!
  • Live BOLD!
  • Have FAITH!
  • And UNAFRAID…..to speak the truth in love….

                                                       Regardless of what it costs!?

  1. I so agree with you. I’m surprised how many Christian bloggers are posting that we aren’t being loving by saying gay marriage is wrong. If someone is standing in the road about to be run over my a semi truck isn’t the loving thing to warn them of the danger of the position they are in? I do see that the way we present truth is key as well. Like you said, it’s not an either/or, it’s both truth and love.

  2. Jen – God must be speaking to me (I know that He is, and He will often confirm what He is saying from several sources). I’ve been pondering this whole issue of truth and love. Your post is at least the second one today that I have read on this subject.

Thank you for stirring my thoughts.

    Blessings,
    Joan

  3. My heart skipped a beat when I saw those holes in the Bible. I want to be careful to follow every precept, to read and study to allow God to speak to me through His Word.

  4. Elizabeth – Yes, the marriage of truth & love…the inseparable definition of who God is.

Joan – Rejoicing that God would use my mere words to let Christ’s life shine to you. Thank you for the sweet encouragement. Blessings to you as well.

  5. Pamela – I felt the same exact way when I found that photo. Who could do such a thing? What kind of person takes scissors to God’s Holy Word? But then it struck me…every time we reject, don’t practice, or don’t preach the whole word of God…we are cutting out a piece of truth. In retrospect…cutting up God’s Word. Ughh. Lord, please forgive us.
