A Journey Toward Christ-likeness

Homeless one.  I see you. Why do you wander like I used to?

Greed and idolaters.  Why do you seek earthly treasures…that as you chase them…they elude you?

Addiction.  Why do you find her?  What shame has made sin have such power?

Innocence.  Why have you robbed her?  Left empty, useless, fleeting power.

Dwindling strength……Where is your fire?  Conviction?  Hope hunters?  I see you out there.

Wandering.  Desperate to help you.

Do everyday we pass them?  The lost?  Someone’s mother, child, sister, brother…father?

Do we see them?  Or just turn past?  As if ugliness offends? Sorrow will depress?

Acknowledging, depletes somehow?

Who are we?  Taking freedom & holding it as if it ours. Keeping house. Cars. Lives on a shelf as if safer…out of wickedness’ harm.

For why did His disciples go to the upper room?  To sit there. Stay there. Dwell in the comfort that hides them from the world?

Or to go out?  Into the world?  Down the mountain?

After all, was the mountain made to be climbed…only to bask in His glory?  To wave our flags how we are better, more healed, whole.  More holy?

Were we given to hoard?  Lifted to condemn?  Changed to be a mirror to the world of what goodness is?

Or….is that what Christ came for….and is?

Glory?  Do we seek to be Holy because He is Holy?

Or, do we grab the prize and selfishly hold it?  Gloat for fame or prestige? Waist life boasting?

Weren’t we called to “go”?  Off the mountain?  Down the hill?  Into the valley of the shadow of evil?

…Carrying the light of Him?

…beyond the safety of our plight?

…to radically transform the night?

In Him, by Him, through Him, for Him.  So that His glorious name can be lifted high.

Then….and only then, can we see them.  See them, as He sees them.  Love them as He loves them.

The agony of their state compelling us. Away from the temples of man-made hands….as Jesus did….

To the blind, the beggar…the adulterous’.

Stirred with compassion… and boldness…and healing.

But, most of all looking and pointing them to Jesus.

Oh God, get me out of my pew.  Off my comfy, study chair.  Away from my five bedroom house…

And let me serve.  So that I may be more like you.

Let me find the one’s that want to be found. Touch the untouchables. Love the most unlovely.

And in the process….by your grace…ignite me with fire…on the mount…

So that you can lure me down….into the deepest, darkest alleys….those valleys crying out…..

For you Lord……more of you.

Yes Lord, call us out…..

Of ourselves.

“And he said to them….
‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
