How Fingernail Polish Opens Doors

Dinner time.  In orphanage. In China.

Struggling through white rice….made with more love than any bowl could hold.

First night in orphanage.

Three plane rides far away from home.

And we walk into kitchen.

“Xie xie”….to say, “Thank you” in Chinese.

We then ask….to paint nails….for many.

And fingers and toes….a representation of love.

And Jesus surfaces in my soul.

And how he took the disciples feet.  And washed them tenderly.

And I realize.  I am simply a servant…..as I paint faithfully.

Then, I see them come.

The many.

Toddlers enter through doors wide open.

And hugs and arms reaching not enough.

They place a baby in my arms.  I get to hold him.

Prayers answered.

Holding children….in this orphanage….was to be forbidden.

Smiles.  Giggles.  Playing peek a boo with one of the children.

And it’s funny how the heart of God….a servant. One act of kindness….breaks down walls.

Hands and feet touched.  Not by us….

But by the extended hand of God.

And how He could of come on a Kings throne….

But, He didn’t.

And how servants arms get more….than any palace or wealth or prestige could own.

And I want more of Him.

There.  In an orphanage.  In China.

And for The Humble Servant….

I am thankful!

  3. this made me weepy jen. the love, through that gesture… but it also made me sad that they’d originally forbade you to hold the children. why is this? how it makes me ache. thank you so much for sharing sister.

  4. Emily – Not 100% why they didn’t want us to hold the children. I presume….so many kids, so few workers. And it seems, if the kids get used to being held…they may need a level of care that the staff are just not able to consistently implement. A little sad…isn’t it? 🙁 Thanks for reading Emily and for your beautiful heart of love for others!

Wolf – Thank you! Blessings to you too. ~ jen

  5. It doesn’t take much to show God’s love, does it? Sometimes we focus on the big things and it is often the little things that shine His light the brightest. Thank you for sharing the beautiful moment.

  6. Jesus came to earth as a baby. Think of those who were allowed to HOLD this little one? Simeon, perhaps Elizabeth, those who performed the circumcision and maybe other close friends. When we hold a child and pray over that little person, we do this as unto God. Lovely Post.

  7. Jelly – Absolutely, feel without a doubt, this gift was a gift. Thanks for stopping by today and reading. ~ jen
